The "Ensuring Seniors Access to Local Pharmacies Act of 2014" (H.R. 4577) is sponsored by Congressmen Morgan Griffith (R-VA) and Peter Welch (D-VT) and is the first bill to address this issue in the U.S. Congress.
If enacted, this bill would allow any pharmacy located in a health professional shortage area or medically underserved community and willing to accept the contractual terms and conditions to participate as a preferred pharmacy in Medicare Part D plans.
This is an important first step towards providing fairness and enhanced access for seniors to pharmacies of their choice.
Tell your representative H.R. 4577 is worthy of support for the following reasons:
- It addresses access issues in medically underserved communities
- It promotes competition in Part D
Please also relay any examples you have of patients being turned away or being forced to travel due to Part D plan’s preferred network design.
H. D. Smith is proud to support the efforts of NCPA in encouraging pharmacists to raise their voices to shape legislation.
