H. D. Smith was recently honored, for the second year in a row, as a “Good as Gold Business” at a community ceremony held at University of Illinois Springfield. This distinction recognizes Springfield businesses that support volunteerism, encourage employees to serve in the community, organize service efforts, and/or financially support the efforts of nonprofits and charitable organizations.

“H. D. Smith has a rich heritage tied to the Springfield community, with charitable giving part of the H. D. Smith culture,” said Chris Smith, president and CEO, H. D. Smith. “The H. D. Smith Foundation matches associate donations to any charitable organization and continually partners with local chapters like United Way and the American Heart Association to make Springfield a better place to live and work.”

The Good as Gold Ceremony was established in 2009 to recognize the spirit and achievements of local volunteers and nonprofit organizations. The ceremony is a joint effort between the UIS Volunteer & Civic Engagement Center, the Junior League of Springfield and the United Way of Central Illinois. In 2014, the Good as Gold Awards Ceremony began recognizing Springfield businesses that support volunteer efforts and charitable giving through the Good as Gold Business Honor Roll.
