An internal promotion, Gernigin will be responsible for the company’s accounting policies, systems and practices, internal and external financial reporting, internal financial controls, and tax compliance and planning. Overseeing the financial shared services department, he will also provide a wide variety of financial advice and counsel to senior management.

Gernigin joined H. D. Smith in 2013 as the assistant corporate controller, leading the company’s corporate accounting functions, significantly accelerating the timeliness and improving the content of our financial reporting.

Smith. “He has been instrumental in transitioning our accounting and reporting systems to the SAP technology environment, and improving our financial closing and reporting process.”

Previous to H. D. Smith, he was senior manager, audit at KPMG, where he led audit engagements with public and private companies, which included H. D. Smith, as well as serving as the global audit engagement manager for industrial companies like St. Louis-based Emerson Electric. In addition to his experience at KPMG, he was director of accounting at an Emerson spin-off, Nidec Motor Corporation, and previously served our country as a three-year veteran of the United States Army.

Gernigin earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude.
