Feb. 23, 2015 (SPRINGFIELD, Ill.) – H. D. Smith, among the nation’s largest pharmaceutical wholesalers, and Dierbergs Markets, a fourth-generation, family-owned chain of 25 supermarkets with more than 4,000 associates in Missouri and Illinois, recently announced a multi-year agreement naming H. D. Smith the primary wholesaler for the St. Louis-based grocery store chain. With a shared commitment to ensuring local customers can access the products they need to stay healthy, the two companies are partnering to offer brand and generic pharmaceutical products at Dierbergs’ Missouri and Illinois locations.

“Since our founding 60 years ago, the H. D. Smith mission has always been to support local pharmacy businesses with unmatched service and access to needed medicines – so that they can best serve their patients and improve the health and well-being of their communities,” said Scott Wilson, H. D. Smith senior vice president, drug divisions. “Dierbergs is a like-minded and like-hearted organization – a family-owned business that has also experienced exponential growth by supporting its community – and our partnership felt like a natural fit from the start. We are proud to help Dierbergs care for its community, right in our own backyard.”

Beginning in February 2015, H. D. Smith deliveries will fill the 22 pharmacies of Dierbergs stores in the St. Louis metropolitan area, as well as those in surrounding towns. Exact terms of the agreement remain confidential.

“Dierbergs is always looking for the best ways to bring our customers the products they need, and H. D. Smith offered a complete package that aligned with our values and priorities for customer service and outstanding value,” said Greg Guenther R.Ph., Dierbergs Markets director of pharmacy. “The ability to pick up medicines and talk to a friendly neighborhood pharmacist at a local Dierbergs Market is important to our customers – and we look forward to building on the shared mission, trust and transparency we have established with H. D. Smith so far.”
