    As executive vice president of organizational strategy, Karen Callaway is focused on developing and implementing a workforce strategy around cultural transformation and change management. She oversees the structure to determine talent needs, based on the company’s growth and goals.

    Karen has more than 30 years of experience in human resources, recruitment, public relations and marketing. She joined H. D. Smith in 2004 and most recently served as executive vice president human resources where she provided overall strategic leadership through human resources policies, programs and services.

    She earned a master’s degree in organizational studies from the University of Illinois, Springfield, and a bachelor’s degree in business management from Sangamon State University. Karen also holds professional certification as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR).

    President, H. D. Smith

    Bob Appleby currently leads H. D. Smith, and its subsidiaries Smith Medical Partners and Valley Wholesale Drug Co. In this role, Bob oversees all aspects of the company, as a wholly owned subsidiary of AmerisourceBergen Corporation.

    Joining H. D. Smith in 2009, Bob previously served as president of specialty solutions at H. D. Smith. In that role, he was responsible for the strategic direction and daily management of H. D. Smith’s specialty solution division, with solutions spreading across the supply chain, from manufacturer solutions to retail pharmacies.

    Bob also served as corporate vice president of prescription products for H. D. Smith, where he was responsible for managing the company’s prescription pharmaceutical business. He has more than 20 years of domestic and international business development, sales, marketing and strategic finance experience with two Fortune 500 companies and a big-four accounting firm. Bob previously worked at Cardinal Health as vice president of customer development.

    A graduate of Drexel University, he earned a master’s degree in business administration. He also earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Ohio State University.

    Senior Vice President, Commercial Operations

    Tom Calhoun serves as H. D. Smith’s Corporate Vice President of Customer Delivery, overseeing all aspects of operations and customer service for H. D. Smith’s eight distribution centers.

    Tom joined H. D. Smith as Vice President Division Manager of its New York Metro Division, located in Kearny, New Jersey in 2014. In that role he was responsible for operations of the division, including administration, sales, customer service, accounting, credit and collections. The division serves pharmacies in Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey and Northern Virginia.

    Tom brings nearly 30 years of experience in the healthcare industry. Prior to H. D. Smith, Tom served as senior vice president of operations, with responsibility for general management, budgetary and strategic planning for 35 medical and pharmaceutical distribution centers in the U.S. He has extensive experience in regulatory and compliance initiatives, while providing leadership for more than 5,000 employees.

    Tom’s education and training include a business degree from Pierce College in Los Angeles, and business, marketing and professional development courses at Ohio State, Boston University and University of Southern California.

    As senior vice president, information technology, Mark Mehmet is responsible for leading product development to support business initiatives. He spearheads production teams from inception to final product, as well as identifies and proposes new information technologies and systems to improve business processes and decision-making.

    A 35-year information technology veteran, Mark’s experience has included vice president of enterprise applications for Knowledge Universe, vice president of e-commerce and application architecture for Office Depot and director-level positions with Chico’s, Alcoa and Kmart.

    He earned a master of business administration from Wayne State University, with a double concentration in information systems and finance.

    Tom Twitty is responsible for all aspects of supply chain management, including operations, purchasing, regulatory and risk management for H. D. Smith, and its subsidiaries. In this role, he develops a company supply chain strategy that meets company performance objectives.

    Tom joined H. D. Smith in 2006 as vice president of operations. In his most recent role, corporate vice president drug divisions west, he was responsible for profit and loss, sales leadership, project management and operations in H. D. Smith’s western divisions.

    Prior to joining H. D. Smith, he worked as regional director of operations for Cardinal Health in Michigan. He is a graduate of Ohio State University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration, majoring in production operations management and management information systems.

    In her current role as Corporate Vice President, Financial Planning, Analysis and Credit, Ronda Folkerts leads the arm of finance focused on improving profitability for H. D. Smith, and our customers alike. She oversees the regional finance, financial planning and analysis, sales operations, and credit teams.

    Previously as regional vice president drug divisions west, Ronda supervised H. D. Smith’s wholesale drug divisions located in California, Illinois, Kentucky and Texas, responsible for executing the company’s annual operating plan at each division, and managing the divisions’ leadership teams, projects, finances and operations.

    Ronda joined H. D. Smith in 2003 as controller with nearly 15 years of experience in the financial industry. She transitioned to the role of general manager for the Illinois Division in 2006 and served as the Illinois Division’s vice president division manager from 2008 to 2010. She also served as vice president finance drug divisions west, overseeing the financial operations of the California, Illinois, Kentucky and Texas Divisions.

    Ronda earned a Bachelor of Science in accounting from Illinois State University.

    As corporate vice president sales, Rob Meriweather is primarily responsible for developing and maintaining the enterprise sales strategy, gaining sales from strategic retail and alternate care pharmacies, and developing executive relationships with group purchasing organizations.

    An H. D. Smith associate since 2012, he previously worked with the organization’s larger customers as director of retail national accounts, growing this segment by more than 30 percent during his tenure. In that role, he had responsibility for targeting, maintaining and growing the organization’s prime market opportunities by creating unique sales strategies and value propositions for large regional and national chain pharmacies.

    Previous to H. D. Smith, Rob served as vice president of global sales for HemCon Medical Technologies, Inc., and was responsible for domestic sales growth and international sales expansion of the product line. Prior to that, he served as a national account manager for Cardinal Health, managing more than $450 million in drug distribution business with regional grocery chains.

    Rob earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Otterbein University.

    As corporate vice president of supply chain management, Kyle Pudenz leads the inventory planning and sourcing functions for H. D. Smith. In this role, Kyle is primarily responsible for the overall direction of category management and buying procurement to enhance sales and profits though vendor relations and inventory investments. He supports H. D. Smith’s core value of providing an extraordinary customer experience for both internal and external customers using “big data” analysis methods combined with a continuous improvement culture. 

    Joining the company in 2014, Kyle brings a wealth of experience in manufacturing and distribution fields. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Duke University and a master’s in business administration from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Kyle is currently pursuing a Doctorate of Business Administration at DePaul University to add to a lean green belt and APICS CLTD, CSCP, and CPIM certifications.
