H. D. Smith Promotes Leadership to Support Company's Strategic Growth

New vice president part of ongoing initiative to enhance leadership, optimize growth potential

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – H. D. Smith, the fourth largest national pharmaceutical wholesaler, announced the promotion of Karen Callaway to vice president Human Resources.  This is the latest in a series of recent senior appointments designed to guide the Company’s continued focus on expansion.

As vice president Human Resources, Callaway will assume a key role in H. D. Smith’s corporate strategic planning, translating those plans into tangible recruitment and professional development practices.

“With plans to grow and expand as in recent years, H. D. Smith will rely on Karen Callaway’s expertise to lead the Company’s incorporation of talented professionals into our team,” said Chris Smith, president and chief operating officer. 

Cultivated over 30 years experience in human resources, recruitment, public relations and marketing, Callaway possesses a strong background in strategic development of comprehensive human resources programs that embrace organizational development and positioning for future growth.  She joined H. D. Smith in 2004 and most recently served as director Human Resources.  During her time at H. D. Smith, Callaway’s experience includes sharpening the Company’s recruiting, training and development practices while enhancing efficiencies and compliance endeavors.

Callaway earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management from Sangamon State University and a Master’s Degree in Organization Studies from the University of Illinois, Springfield. She holds the distinguished designation Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) from the Human Resources Certification Institute.
