Henry Dale Smith
Henry Dale Smith founded H. D. Smith in January 1954. From the beginning, Henry Dale always had a deep commitment to the industry. He was a pharmacist by trade, with a bachelor’s in chemistry from The Citadel and a bachelor’s in pharmacy from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
For decades, he was been a member of the National Wholesale Druggists Association (NWDA) and was a regular attendee at national and regional meetings. In 1973 he joined the NWDA Pharmaceutical Marketing Committee, serving as its Chairman in 1975. He earned the Healthcare Distribution Management Association (HDMA) Nexus Award for Lifetime Achievement in 2003.
Throughout the years and still today, vendors, customers, and association executives honor his honesty, integrity and passion for the industry. Henry Dale was born August 1, 1928, and passed away Sept. 19, 2015.

Dale Smith is chairman and CEO of the parent holding company of H. D. Smith, overseeing ultimate guidance of the company, alongside the board of directors. Focused on the strategic direction of H. D. Smith and its subsidiaries, Dale combines vast industry knowledge as well as years of running the wholesale distribution company to drive the company’s growth.
Under his leadership, H. D. Smith has grown from a regional wholesaler to a national wholesaler with distribution centers spanning from coast to coast. Dale leads the company’s commitment to providing unique, best-in-class service and solutions that aid retail pharmacies, regional chains, health systems and alternate care facilities in cost-containment opportunities, enhancing efficiencies, and helping maximize patient outcomes.
Dale has piloted H. D. Smith into greater partnerships with manufacturers as well as significant growth nationwide. In addition to his experience at H. D. Smith, he previously served as vice chairman and president of the J M Smith Corporation, the company his grandfather founded. Dale cofounded and chaired Wholesale Alliance, LLC, from 1997 to 2005, a cooperative focused on helping pharmacies provide clinical services.
Currently, Dale is a member of the HDMA Board of Directors and is a member of its Executive Committee. He has chaired and served on various committees and advisory boards within the industry during his career, including HDMA’s Government and Public Policy Council and Industry Relations Council.
In 2005, Dale was named the Illinois winner of the Entrepreneur of the Year Award in the Health Services/Life Sciences category. Dale earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Davidson College.

In March 2015, Chris Smith became president and chief executive officer of H. D. Smith, overseeing all day-to-day operations of the company. In this position, Chris holds executive responsibility for the H. D. Smith wholesale enterprise, as well as the functional areas that support both the wholesale and specialty solutions businesses.
Chris joined H. D. Smith in 1980 as a buyer and advanced through several positions at the Illinois Division.
Throughout his career, Chris has served on numerous industry boards and committees, including the HDMA Board of Directors and currently serves on the HDMA Government Relations Council. He recently served as chairman of HDMA’s Industry Relations Council. Chris has also served on the Pharmaceutical Marketing Committee of NWDA and the HDMA Performance and Trends Committee, chairing that committee in 2001.
Chris is actively involved with various community boards and committees, including the Pharmacy Advisory Board for the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville School of Pharmacy, the United Way of Central Illinois Board, the Springfield Luncheon Optimist Club and the Sangamo Club Board. Formerly, Chris served as chairman of the Memorial Medical Center Foundation Board and on the Central Illinois Community Blood Center Board of Directors.
Chris earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Illinois and a master’s in management from the J. L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University. He is also a 1992 graduate of Dale Carnegie training.
David Guzmán Chief Information Officer

David Guzmán is chief information officer for H. D. Smith. In this role, David is responsible for developing and implementing information technology initiatives to enhance the customer experience as well as advance H. D. Smith’s supply-chain and cost-management systems.
David is an information technology veteran with nearly 30 years of service at Fortune 500 companies in finance, retail, consumer-product and health-service industries. He joined H. D. Smith in 2011 from Acxiom, one of the country’s largest information service providers. There, he was the chief information and technology officer.
David has previously served at the chief information officer-level at a number of technology, healthcare and retail giants including Owens & Minor and Office Depot. Managing multi-million dollar budgets, improving service while reducing related expenses, he understands the nexus between economics and service. At Owens & Minor, David oversaw the development of revenue-generating platforms and services for hospital customers that helped the company grow to an $8 billion dollar healthcare distribution business. David twice led Owens & Minor to #1 on the InformationWeek 500 roster.
Kathryn Shaw Chief Financial Officer

Kathryn Shaw joined H. D. Smith in March 2015 as Chief Financial Officer. Kathryn balances financial acumen with an understanding of customer development, channel management, sales, treasury and has deep technology expertise. She excels at growing new businesses while managing resources and designing organizations with a strong financial strategy.
Kathryn served as CFO and Chief Technology Officer for the American Bar Association, and has had extensive experience with financial infrastructure. She is known for her collaborative and hands-on management, trouble shooting, and problem-solving skills. Her industry experience includes electronics, telecommunications, healthcare, manufacturing, data, software development and customer management contact centers, and shared services.
Kathryn’s experience also includes nearly 25 years of senior finance roles with global industrial companies, including Siemens, IBM, ROLM, Raychem and Mobil. She spent 16 years at Siemens where her roles included vice president of finance. In that role, she had responsibility for divisions and regions spanning $800 million. While at Siemens, she focused on customer growth and satisfaction, balancing product lines, pricing decisions, project execution monitoring and flawless ERP implementations.
Kathryn earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing and finance, and a master’s in business administration from Northern Illinois University. She is also a licensed certified public accountant.

A 40-year industry veteran, Joe Conda is working with H. D. Smith’s chairman to progress strategic planning and business development for H. D. Smith. He is a well-known and respected figure in the healthcare distribution and packaging industries. Throughout his career, he has helped numerous companies enhance market share and position through the development and implementation of strategic planning initiatives.
Most recently, Joe served as the leader of H. D. Smith’s specialty solutions, which include Smith Medical Partners and Triplefin. He supervised budget responsibility for both organizations’ operations, including sales, general corporate and liability insurance, security and regulatory compliance.
His previous experiences include serving as executive consultant, focusing on strategic planning and execution, for several pharmaceutical, consumer packaging and medical technology companies. He also served as president of Owens Illinois Healthcare Packaging, as well as serving in almost all key leadership roles for Owens Illinois Prescription Products. Prior to Owens, Joe held sales and marketing executive roles at Brockway.
In 1998, he was awarded the HDMA Foundation Nexus Award for Lifetime Achievement. He has also received the 2010 Harold W. Pratt Award, in recognition of his efforts to improve the practice of pharmacy within the chain drug industry.
A graduate of Rutgers University, Joe earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration and marketing. He also has a finance certificate from the Darden School of Business Administration at the University of Virginia.

As executive vice president of organizational strategy, Karen Callaway is focused on developing and implementing a workforce strategy around cultural transformation and change management. She oversees the structure to determine talent needs, based on the company’s growth and goals.
Karen has more than 30 years of experience in human resources, recruitment, public relations and marketing. She joined H. D. Smith in 2004 and most recently served as executive vice president human resources where she provided overall strategic leadership through human resources policies, programs and services.
She earned a master’s degree in organizational studies from the University of Illinois, Springfield, and a bachelor’s degree in business management from Sangamon State University. Karen also holds professional certification as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR).

Assuming this role in March 2015, Bob will lead H. D. Smith’s specialty solutions, which include subsidiaries Smith Medical Partners and Triplefin. He assumes responsibility for both organizations’ operations, including sales, general corporate and liability insurance, security and regulatory compliance.
Formerly serving as senior vice president of category management, Bob Appleby is responsible for implementing company strategy to enhance sales and profits through vendor relationships, in coordination with H. D. Smith’s sales, marketing and purchasing departments. He drives the development and implementation of programs, services and other business solutions to meet the company’s gross margin and profit objectives, while offering customers an outstanding value.
Bob most recently served as corporate vice president of prescription products for H. D. Smith, where he was responsible for managing the company’s prescription pharmaceutical business. He has more than 16 years of domestic and international business development, sales, marketing and strategic finance experience with two Fortune 500 companies and a Big Four accounting firm. Bob previously served at Cardinal Health as vice president of customer development.
A graduate of Drexel University, he earned a master’s degree in business administration. He also has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Ohio State University.

As executive vice president of commercial solutions, Tom Doyle leads the commercialization teams across Smith Medical Partners and Triplefin to benefit customers throughout the pharmaceutical supply chain for key products, services and market segments. His efforts accelerate the value of the combined resources of Smith Medical Partners and Triplefin..
Tom served first as director and most recently, as vice president of new business development for Smith Medical Partners, a wholly owned subsidiary of H. D. Smith. He has more than 25 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, in both brand and distribution companies. Tom’s roles have ranged from directing trade and U.S. commercial operations, leading 3M’s Canadian pharmaceutical business unit to business development, and strategic planning.
A Six Sigma Black Belt, he was selected to participate in the 3M Advanced Leadership Development Program. He holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from Hillsdale College in Hillsdale, MI.

As senior vice president category management, Dmitrey Kuznetsov is responsible for implementing company strategy to enhance profits through vendor relationships, in coordination with H. D. Smith’s sales, marketing and purchasing departments. He oversees the development and implementation of programs, services and other business solutions to meet the company’s gross margin and profit objectives, while offering our customers an outstanding value.
Most recently in the role of vice president, generic pharmaceuticals, Dmitrey worked to enhance H. D. Smith’s generics portfolio by driving a consistent and comprehensive strategy. In addition to generic sourcing, he was responsible for the commercialization of generics. He developed programs and pricing initiatives to optimize generics offerings for H. D. Smith’s customers.
Dmitrey joined H. D. Smith in 2012 as vice president, generic pharmaceuticals sourcing, and was responsible for the development, implementation and management of the generic pharmaceuticals sourcing strategy.
He has more than 20 years of experience in commercial operations, marketing, sales, and strategic planning at Fortune 500 brand and distribution companies. Dmitrey previously served at McKesson as senior director of business development.
A graduate of Olin School of Business at Washington University in St. Louis, he earned a master’s degree in business administration. He also earned a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy from St. Louis College of Pharmacy.

Scott Wilson is responsible for delivering the annual operating plan net profit and sales goals for H. D. Smith’s wholesale drug divisions. In this role, Scott oversees all business functions within the wholesale drug divisions and manages operating plan goals at each division.
Prior to his current role, he served as corporate vice president of business transformation where he was responsible for large-scale data enhancement programs. He joined H. D. Smith in 2006 and leverages more than 20 years of leadership experience at the vice president, general manager and director levels. Prior to H. D. Smith, Scott served in a leadership role during the integration of two merged Fortune 200 companies.
Scott earned a bachelor’s in accounting from East Tennessee State University and served in the United States Air Force.

Tom Twitty is responsible for all aspects of supply chain management, including operations, purchasing, regulatory and risk management for H. D. Smith, and its subsidiaries. In this role, he develops a company supply chain strategy that meets company performance objectives.
Tom joined H. D. Smith in 2006 as vice president of operations. In his most recent role, corporate vice president drug divisions west, he was responsible for profit and loss, sales leadership, project management and operations in H. D. Smith’s western divisions.
Prior to joining H. D. Smith, he worked as regional director of operations for Cardinal Health in Michigan. He is a graduate of Ohio State University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration, majoring in production operations management and management information systems.

Bob Dynek is the corporate vice president consumer products at H. D. Smith, serving as the executive in charge for the Home Healthcare (HHC) and Health, Beauty and Wellness (HBW) categories. Bob drives the company’s strategy in these areas through collaboration with sales leadership, vendor and customer relationships, distribution centers, and purchasing. Through this cooperation, Bob leads the implementation and evolution of programs, services and solutions to offer our customers an outstanding value and service.
Bob leverages more than 30 years of industry experience in category management, supply chain, merchandising, sales and sales management with companies including General Drug Company, FoxMeyer Corporation and Louis Zahn Drug Company. In his more than15 years at H. D. Smith, he has held numerous positions in brand category management and has led the purchasing, trade relations and master data departments.
He earned a bachelor of science in commerce from DePaul University.

As regional vice president drug divisions west, Ronda Folkerts oversees H. D. Smith’s wholesale drug divisions located in California, Illinois, Kentucky and Texas. Ronda is responsible for executing the company’s annual operating plan at each division, and managing the divisions’ leadership teams, projects, finances and operations.
Ronda joined H. D. Smith in 2003 as controller with nearly 15 years of experience in the financial industry. She transitioned to the role of general manager for the Illinois Division in 2006 and served as the Illinois Division’s vice president division manager from 2008 to 2010. During her leadership, Ronda successfully managed several teams to produce results and increase sales, and played a key role in helping the Illinois Division achieve the honor of Division of the Year in 2006 and 2007. Most recently, she served as vice president finance drug divisions west, overseeing the financial operations of the California, Illinois, Kentucky and Texas Divisions.
Ronda earned a Bachelor of Science in accounting from Illinois State University.

Mike Gernigin is responsible for the company’s accounting policies, systems and practices, internal and external financial reporting, internal financial controls, and tax compliance and planning. Overseeing the financial shared services department, he will also provide a wide variety of financial advice and counsel to senior management.
Mike joined H. D. Smith in 2013 as the assistant corporate controller, leading the company’s corporate accounting functions, significantly accelerating the timeliness and improving the content of our financial reporting.
Previous to H. D. Smith, he was senior manager, audit at KPMG, where he led audit engagements with public and private companies, which included H. D. Smith, as well as serving as the global audit engagement manager for industrial companies like St. Louis-based Emerson Electric. In addition to his experience at KPMG, he was director of accounting at an Emerson spin-off, Nidec Motor Corporation, and previously served our country as a three-year veteran of the United States Army.

As corporate vice president drug divisions east, Christian Herrington is responsible for profit and loss, sales leadership, project management and operations in H. D. Smith’s Eastern region divisions, which are located in Florida, New England and New York Metro. Regional leadership of H. D. Smith’s distribution centers enables increased responsiveness and flexibility in meeting customers’ needs. Decades of divisional, regional and national industry leadership experiences are evidence that Christian truly understands, and is dedicated, to the mission of providing exceptional service to H. D. Smith’s customers.
Christian joined H. D. Smith in 2001 as vice president of sales. From 2008 to 2011, Christian served as vice president division manager of H. D. Smith’s New England Division. Under his leadership, the division earned the esteemed H. D. Smith Division of the Year honor in 2010. Prior to joining H. D. Smith, Christian held roles of increasing responsibility at Bindley Western, first as division sales manager and then as national director of retail sales. When Bindley Western was acquired by Cardinal Health, Christian became national director of customer integration.
He is a graduate of the University of Connecticut, where he earned a bachelor of science in pathobiology.

As corporate vice president product development and architecture, Mark Mehmet is responsible for leading product development to support business initiatives. He spear-heads production teams from inception to final product, as well as identifies and proposes new information technologies and systems to improve business processes and decision-making.
A 30-year information technology veteran, Mark’s experience has included vice president of enterprise applications for Knowledge Universe, vice president of e-commerce and application architecture for Office Depot and director-level positions with Chico’s, Alcoa and Kmart.
He earned a master of business administration from Wayne State University, with a double concentration in information systems and finance. His bachelor’s degree is from Detroit College of Business. At Michigan State University, he completed computer science curriculum. In addition, Mark is a Sun-certified enterprise architect, Java 1.1 programmer and programmer for Java 2 Platform.

Through analytical and market strategy leadership, he guides the organization to optimal price levels, policies and processes.
Harold possesses an industry-wide reputation as a thought leader and change agent. With twenty years of experience in pricing strategy, strategic marketing and customer profitability, Harold’s insightful analysis is an asset to H. D. Smith and its customers.
Prior to joining the organization, Harold served as the first Vice President Strategic Pricing and Customer Profitability for Sarnova, Inc. He has also served as Vice President Strategic Pricing for Cardinal Health for over six years.
A graduate of University of Nebraska, Lincoln, Harold holds a Bachelors of Science with Highest Distinction in Business Administration, Finance. He previously served on the board of directors for the Institute of Internal Research Pricing (PRICEX) and has numerous speaker affiliations including PRICEX, Professional Pricing Society and leading Universities.

As corporate vice president of strategic planning, Carolyn Webb is responsible for defining, executing and delivering the corporate strategic plan. Carolyn is accountable for creating the strategy development process, translating the established strategy into goals, communicating the strategic goals and assisting the CEO in maintaining company alignment with strategy.
With 21 years of healthcare experience, Carolyn has served in a range of accounting, finance, sales, marketing and strategic planning roles with several companies, including Abbott Laboratories, Accenture and Baxter Healthcare. Carolyn joined H. D. Smith in 2010 as director brand pharmaceuticals and was promoted to the corporate vice president of marketing in 2011.
Carolyn earned a bachelor’s in business administration, focused on accounting and finance from the University of Michigan. She earned a Master of Business Administration in marketing, finance and health services management from Northwestern University Kellogg School of Management.
Rob Meriweather Vice President Sales

As vice president sales, Rob is primarily responsible for developing and maintaining the enterprise sales strategy, gaining sales from strategic retail customers, and developing executive relationships with group purchasing organizations.
An H. D. Smith associate since 2012, he most recently worked with the organization’s larger customers as director of retail national accounts, growing this segment by more than 30 percent during his tenure. In that role, he had responsibility for targeting, maintaining and growing the organization’s prime market opportunities by creating unique sales strategies and value propositions for large regional and national chain pharmacies.
Previous to H. D. Smith, Meriweather served as vice president of global sales for HemCon Medical Technologies, Inc., and was responsible for domestic sales growth and international sales expansion of the product line. Prior to that, he served as a national account manager for Cardinal Health, managing more than $450 million in drug distribution business with regional grocery chains.
Rob earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Otterbein University.

In 2005, Jerry Cain joined the H. D. Smith sales leadership team as vice president institutional sales and national accounts. In this role, he primarily works with hospitals, long-term care facilities and large accounts. He also trains and develops institutional sales representatives, while building and sustaining relationships with multiple Group Purchasing Organizations (GPOs).
Prior to joining H. D. Smith, Jerry worked as a division manager for Pepsi MidAmerica, where he was responsible for all activities within two distribution centers, including sales and marketing functions. He also served as vice president, Health Systems Group for AmerisourceBergen Corporation, where he created and implemented prospecting strategies to build and maintain new institutional account relationships.
Jerry earned a bachelor’s degree in management from Indiana Wesleyan University.
Bobbi Brajkovich Director Retail National Accounts

Joining H. D. Smith in 2015, Bobbi Brajkovich is focused on accounts that are retail pharmacies in her role as director of retail national accounts. In this role, Bobbi has a specific focus on growing our business with small chains, regional chains and strategic multi-site opportunities. She works closely with each H. D. Smith division to develop and win new business.
Prior to H. D. Smith, Bobbi worked in several sales roles, and has a pharmaceutical wholesaling background that stretches back to Bindley-Western and Cardinal Health, where she served as business development manager in the retail space and regional sales manager on the health systems side. Most recently, Bobbi brings the expertise and perspective gained from opening markets in the medical device industry.
Bobbi earned a bachelor’s degree in social work from Indiana University Bloomington.
