Medical Benefits

  • Medical Insurance - We understand that employee and family insurance is vital. As such, we have partnered with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois to offer advantageous coverage to eligible associates and their eligible dependents.
  • Prescription Benefit - Associates enrolled in this medical insurance plan also qualify for a prescription benefit program. Prescriptions filled at our affiliate, Complete Care Pharmacy of Springfield or Chatham, Illinois, will receive a three month prescription for the co-pay rate of a two month prescription.
  • Dental Plan - Our eligible employees have the option to enroll with MetLife Dental to ensure coverage for personal and family dental needs.
  • Vision Plan - Our vision plan coverage through VSP gives eligible associates the flexibility to participate in either a basic or premier coverage.
  • Flexible Spending Accounts - Associates can choose to participate in Health Care FSA or Dependent Care FSA to provide pre-tax reimbursement for eligible heath care and dependent care expenses. A debit card option is available to eliminate reimbursement delays.
  • Short Term Disability - Short term disability is available through Mutual of Omaha for employee purchase as a supplement to the long term disability provided by H. D. Smith.
  • Long Term Disability - Long term disability is covered by H. D. Smith at a rate of 60% of monthly salary replacement, with a maximum of $7,500.

Investing in our Associates

  • Life Insurance and AD&A - H. D. Smith grants a life insurance policy at a rate of one time the associate’s annual salary with a minimum of $25,000. Associates may also purchase additional policies as eligible.
  • Profit Sharing - H. D. Smith believes that associates should benefit from the continued growth and success of the company.  In fiscal periods of profit, H. D. Smith may make a contribution of up to 15% of an associate’s annual compensation. This benefit is available to associates who have been with H. D. Smith for at least a year and have worked a minimum of 1000 hours in the year the contribution is received.
  • Tuition Reimbursement - H. D. Smith believes it is important for associates to develop skills, knowledge, and abilities.  Regular full-time associates are eligible for tuition assistance, contingent on the relevance of the course of study to the industry or the associate’s position.
  • The Walnut Foundation - At H. D. Smith, we support the community involvement of our associates. All donations made to an eligible non-profit organization in an amount greater than $50 will be matched through the Walnut Foundation.

Holidays and Paid Time Off 

  • Holidays - H. D. Smith observes the following holidays: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.
  • Paid Time Off - H. D. Smith provides paid time off to regular full-time associates (40 hours per week). Days are awarded after completion of the 90-day introductory period, with additional time being awarded after additional years of service.
