
Henry Dale Smith, Jr.
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
Dale Smith is Chairman and CEO of H. D. Smith. Under his leadership, H. D. Smith has grown from a regional wholesaler to a national wholesaler with distribution centers spanning from coast to coast. Dale Smith leads the company’s commitment to providing unique, best in class service and solutions that aid retail pharmacies, regional chains, health systems and alternate care facilities in maximizing cost-containment opportunities and enhancing efficiencies. More than just product dispersal, Dale Smith is passionate about helping H. D. Smith customers care for the communities they serve by being a true advocate for and partner in their success.
Formerly, Dale served as the Vice Chairman and President of the J. M. Smith Corporation, the company his grandfather founded. Dale chaired Wholesale Alliance, LLC from 1997 – 2005. He has also served on various committees and advisory boards within the industry during his career, including the HDMA Government and Public Policy Council.
Dale was named the Illinois winner of the 2005 Entrepreneur of the Year Award in the Health Services/Life Sciences category. The Entrepreneur of the Year Award was created by Ernst & Young and recognizes outstanding entrepreneurs who are building and leading dynamic and growing businesses. Ernst & Young presents its annual Entrepreneur of the Year Award to the most successful and innovative entrepreneurial business leaders in more than 30 countries around the globe.
Dale holds a Bachelors degree from Davidson College.

J. Christopher Smith
President and Chief Operating Officer
Chris Smith, with his many years of management experience, currently serves as the President and Chief Operating Officer of H. D. Smith. Chris joined H. D. Smith in 1980 and most recently held the position of Executive Vice President.
Throughout his career, Chris has served on numerous industry boards and committees including his current involvement on the HDMA Board of Directors and the HDMA Industry Relations Council. Chris formerly served on the Pharmaceutical Marketing Committee of NWDA (1990-1992) and the HDMA Performance and Trends Committee (1998-2002, serving as Chairman of the Committee from 2001-2002).
Chris is actively involved with various community boards and committees including serving as Chair of the Memorial Medical Center Foundation Board and on the Pharmacy Advisory Board for the SIU Edwardsville School of Pharmacy. He is also currently involved in the Springfield Luncheon Optimist Club and has served in various capacities including member, board member, Vice President and President. Formerly, Chris served on the Central Illinois Community Blood Center Board of Directors and as Chairman of the Kumler Neighborhood Ministries.
In 2002, while Chris was serving as Division President, the Illinois Division received the coveted H. D. Smith Division of the Year Award.

John Danahy
Director and Chairman of Compensation Committee
John Danahy, former Chairman of May Merchandising (MMC) and May Department Stores International (MDSI), recently retired after 38 years with the May Department Stores Company. John began his career with May in Information Technology, going on to serve as Corporate-wide Senior Vice President of IT. He served as Chairman of Famous Barr for five years before his most recent assignment as Chairman of May Merchandising and May Department Stores International, where he had responsibility for logistics, finance, HR and product development and sourcing offices in Asia, the Indian subcontinent and central Europe.
He is a graduate of Washington University’s Olin School inaugural EMBA Class of 1985, past president of the EMBA Alumni Association, a member of the Olin School’s National Council, a member of the Alumni Association Executive Committee and chair of the EMBA Education Committee. In other non-profit activities, he serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Oasis of St. Louis, as well as board member and past chair of Inroads of St. Louis. In addition, John is a former board member of Downtown St. Louis, Inc., a former board member of Better Business Bureau of St. Louis and member and former Chairman of the Blue Ribbon Division of the United Way Campaign of Greater St. Louis.
John and his wife, Mary Ann, have four children and seven grandchildren and reside in Troy, Missouri. John is also a published author of short fiction.

Kevin Kelly
Secretary and Chairman of Audit Committee
Kevin Kelly has been a member of the H. D. Smith Board of Directors since January 2007. Over the past 14 years, Kevin has served as Chief Financial Officer for both public and privately held companies. Kevin is currently a principal with US Federal Properties Co., a commercial real estate company in the business of acquiring, developing and managing properties leased primarily to the U.S. government. He serves the role of Chief Financial Officer for US Federal Properties with the responsibility for the corporate finance, treasury, accounting and administrative functions.
Prior to joining US Federal Properties in 2010, Kevin served as Chief Financial Officer of Smith Electric Vehicles, an electric vehicle manufacturer, and between 1998 and 2008 served as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Ferrellgas Partners, L.P., a publicly-traded, Fortune 1000, propane distribution company. Prior to joining Ferrellgas in 2006, Kevin’s served as an acquisition manager for a Kansas City-based utility company and also served as a manager with the public accounting firm, KPMG.
Kevin received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting from the University of Missouri-Columbia and is a Certified Public Accountant and member of the Missouri Society of Certified Public Accountants. He is an active member of the community, serving on the board/audit committee of two Kansas City based non-profit organizations. Kevin and his wife, Dianne, have three children and reside in Overland Park, Kansas.

Janet Moss Wade
Director
Janet Moss Wade, in Portland Oregon, is a Senior Medical Sales Specialist with Eisai Inc, a pharmaceutical company. Janet has 17 years of sales experience working in the pharmaceutical industry with drug manufacturers. Janet is serving as a family director replacing her mother, Beverly Smith Moss, who had been a director since the company began.

Steve Novik
Director and Chairman of Nominating & Governance Committee
Steve Novik joined Edward Jones in 1983 as a principal in the Accounting and Finance area. Since joining the firm, Steve has had responsibility for all major aspects of the firm’s accounting and finance functions. He is the Chief Financial Officer and has responsibility for the firm’s real estate and administrative services. Prior to joining the firm, Steve was a partner with the national accounting firm of Main Hurdmann, now KPMG Peat Marwick.
He graduated from the University of Missouri–St. Louis in 1972, earning a B.S.B.A. degree. Steve received his MBA from Washington University in St. Louis two years later. He is a CPA in Missouri and Illinois.

Rogers Smith
Director
Rogers Smith has been a member of the H. D. Smith Board of Directors since 1982. He is the Christopher H. Browne Distinguished Professor of Political Science at the University of Pennsylvania, where he teaches American constitutional law and American political thought. Prior to teaching at the University of Pennsylvania, Rogers was a professor of political science at Yale University from 1980 to 2001.
Rogers has published over 100 essays in academic journals, edited volumes and public interest publications. He has authored or co-authored five books including "Civic Ideals", which received a variety of academic awards and was a Pulitzer Prize Finalist in 1998. Rogers has also supervised 29 doctorate dissertations, six of which have won “best dissertation” prizes from the American Political Science Association.
In addition, Rogers received his Bachelor of Arts degree from James Madison College, Michigan State University and completed his doctorate from Harvard University.
